faces of eve

I see a correlation between the way society views Eve as a mythical figure and the way we see women today.

I see a correlation between the way society views Eve as a mythical figure and the way we see women today. When I started seeing the story of Eve through the lens of the 21st century, suddenly there were so many themes to explore, so much I wanted to say. This is still an unfinished series for me; I’ve only just scratched the surface of a story that continues to unfold as I paint. It’s interesting, but I don’t go into the studio thinking, this is how I’ll paint Eve today; I can’t function that way. I approach it more organically. I may come in and work on something else, but the canvas starts to spell itself out. It reflects what I’m seeing that day and feeling about politics or society or the environment. It’s all quite different, this way of working, from the earlier paintings where I would map everything out. Now it’s totally intuitive behavior.
